Arifureta: From Commonplace to Globe's Strongest (Japanese: ありふれた職業で世界最強, Hepburn: Arifureta Shokugyō de Sekai Saikyō ) is a Japanese light novel series written by Ryo Shirakome and illustrated past Takayaki. Originally a spider web novel, the series has been published in print since 2015. The series follows Hajime Nagumo, who is transported to another world with the rest of his form to fight in a war confronting the demon race. After he is betrayed and left to die by 1 his classmates, Hajime begins a journeying to better himself and observe a style to return home. The novels are licensed in English past J-Novel Social club, with Seven Seas Entertainment publishing them in print. A prequel calorie-free novel was published in 2017.

The series has received a manga adaptation, serialized on Ovelap's Comic Gardo website since 2016, also as a yonkoma one-act spinoff and a manga adaptation of the prequel novel, all 3 licensed by Seven Seas. An anime television series adaptation past White Fox and Asread aired from July to October 2019. A second flavour by Asread and Studio Female parent premiered in January 2022.

Plot [edit]

High-schooler Hajime Nagumo is bullied by his classmate for his relationship with the form idol, Kaori. When he and the rest of his class are transported to a fantasy earth, all of his classmates go powerful magical abilities, while Hajime only gains the bones alchemical magic to transmute solid materials, a mutual power unremarkably constitute in craftsmen and smiths. During a dungeon raid, he is betrayed by ane of his classmates and dropped to the bottom of the dungeon. He survives the fall and creates weapons to escape the dungeon and become stronger. On his journeying, he meets with the imprisoned vampire Yue, and later on is joined by the bunny-eared Shea, the perverted dragon Tio, and others.

A vampire princess who was betrayed and imprisoned past her uncle and retainers in the lesser of the Labyrinth of Oscar Orcus for 300 years, until Hajime discovered and freed her using his transmutation skill. She is a magical prodigy that can use all elemental types of magic and besides has automated regeneration that keeps her from aging and heals her wounds very chop-chop. She barbarous in love with Hajime and became his first companion. Yue does not prove any jealousy when other girls approach Hajime, simply affirms herself as his first and official wife. Ryo Shirakome originally published the series as a web novel on the user-submitted content site Shōsetsuka ni Narō. The main story ran for viii books between Nov 7, 2013, and October 31, 2015, and has been followed by three after-stories and an actress story since.[12] The series was picked upwardly for publication by Overlap, and the publisher released the beginning light novel, with illustrations by Takayaki, under their Overlap Bunko banner in June 2015.[3] When the anime accommodation was announced to accept been delayed until 2019, the 8th volume of the light novel was as well delayed by a month, from March to April 2018.[13] The series will stop with the release of its thirteenth volume.[xiv]

A prequel lite novel series titled Arifureta: From Commonplace to Earth's Strongest Zero ( ありふれた職業で世界最強 零 , Arifureta Shokugyō de Sekai Saikyō Zero ), or Arifureta Zero, was published from Dec 2017 to December 2021.[15] [3] [16] [17]

Digital publisher J-Novel Club licensed the series for an English language release, and published the first chapter on February 21, 2017.[eighteen] [nineteen] During their panel at Anime Expo 2017, Seven Seas Entertainment announced that they would publish a print version of the novels[xix] as office of their collaboration with J-Novel Lodge.[20] J-Novel Club has too licensed Arifureta Nada, and the series was the publisher's first simultaneous publication.[16]

Manga [edit]

A manga adaptation past RoGa has been published on Ovelap'south Comic Gardo website since its inception on December 22, 2016,[3] [21] and the first volume was published 3 days afterwards on December 25 to coincide with the release of the 5th light novel.[21] The series has been licensed by 7 Seas Entertainment.[22]

A yonkoma comedy spinoff by Misaki Mori, titled Arifureta: I Heart Isekai ( ありふれた日常で世界最強 , Arifureta Nichijō de Sekai Saikyō ), began serialization on Overlap's Comic Gardo website on July eleven, 2017.[23] Seven Seas announced their license to the series on January ten, 2019.[24]

An accommodation of the prequel light novel Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest Zero by Ataru Kamichi began serialization on February 23, 2018, on the Comic Gardo website.[iii] [25] [26] [27] Seven Seas appear their license to the series on Jan 10, 2019.[24]

Audio drama [edit]

A series of two drama CDs were released with the seventh, eighth, and tenth volumes of the light novel on Dec 25, 2017, April 25, 2018, and June 25, 2019.[iii] [13] [28] The drama CDs share the same vox cast as the anime.[three]

Anime [edit]

An anime television series adaptation was announced on December iii, 2017. The serial was initially intended to premiere in Apr 2018,[3] [29] but on January 15, 2018, its release was pushed dorsum due to "various circumstances".[13] Originally, the serial would have been directed past Jun Kamiya and written by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu, with blitheness past studio White Play tricks and character designs by Atsuo Tobe, who besides would accept served as primary blitheness manager.[3] Nonetheless, following the postponement, it was announced on Apr 29, 2018, that Kinji Yoshimoto would be taking over as managing director and studio Asread would be joining White Fox as animators. LIO performed the series' opening theme "FLARE", while DracoVirgo performs the serial' ending theme "First Song" ( ハジメノウタ , Hajime no Uta ).[30]

The series aired from July to October 2019 on AT-X, Tokyo MX, SUN, and BS11.[30] [31] It ran for 13 episodes.[32] [33] [34] Two original video animations (OVAs) was released with the 2d and third dwelling house video sets on December 25, 2019, and February 26, 2020.[32] [33] [35] Funimation has licensed the serial for an English simulcast and simuldub.[36]

Later the starting time season'due south finale, it was announced that the serial volition receive a 2d flavor.[37] Akira Iwanaga replaced Kinji Yoshimoto equally director, and Studio Mother replaced White Fox as the secondary studio. The series was the 27th best-selling calorie-free novel series in the first half of 2017, with 84,372 copies sold.[42]

Rebecca Silverman of Anime News Network enjoyed the series, praising it for its central premise and how information technology was "good twist on the genre conventions" by making its hero accept to work for his overpowered hero status instead of immediately gaining it like many lite novel protagonists.[43] [44] She criticized the series for its depiction of the romantic relationship betwixt Hajime and Yue, which she chosen "unhealthy", and also felt that the translation wasn't as good as some of J-Novel Club's other releases.[43]

The anime adaptation was subjected to extremely sharp and negative criticism. Christopher Farris of the Anime News Network, cited manufacturing issues as the master causes of the serial'southward failure. Farris points to the poor quality of the animation and the offset episode missing nigh of the original source of the original novel.[45]
